DESCRIPTION:Author\, Kilong Ung Speaks About his Book "The Golden Leaf" at the May Luncheon Event Please join the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce for the Luncheon event on Thursday\, May 20th at Camas Meadows Golf Course. The doors will open at 11:30 am for a networking\, with the program beginning at noon. The cost is $15 per member\, and $20 for non-members and guests. Attendees must RSVP at least 24 hrs before the event. The luncheon speaker will be the Author: Kilong Ung. He survived the Cambodian genocide between 1975 and 1979. The genocide killed two million Cambodians. His grandmother\, parents\, and youngest sister were starved to death. As a boy slave\, Kilong was forced to work thirteen hours a day\, seven days a week\, and 365 days a year\, and he was given very little food to eat. He was a leaf at the mercy of the wind. Miraculously\, he escaped death multiple times. While two million leaves disintegrated\, he persevered\; he was a Golden Leaf. He escaped Cambodia on foot in 1979\, came to U.S.\, graduated from Reed College\, earned a master's degree from Bowling Green State University. He is now an online banking software engineer at Fiserv. Thirty years after his escape\, he published his memoir Golden Leaf\, A Khmer Rouge Genocide Survivor.
